Set a contact's source, lead type, and timeframe

Record where a lead came from, whether they're buying or selling, and how soon they plan to move.

Three fields tell you the most about any lead: where they came from, what they want, and how soon they'll move. Setting a contact's source, lead type, and timeframe keeps your database organized and powers your filters, smart lists, and lead routing.

Where these fields live

Open any contact from Contacts and look at the detail panel on the right. Source, Type, and Timeframe each show up as their own field — click a field to edit it, and your change saves on its own. There's nothing to submit.

Set the source, type, and timeframe

  1. Open the contact

Head to Contacts and click the lead you want to update. Their detail panel opens on the right.

  2. Set the Source

Click the Source field and choose where the lead came from. Built-in sources include Referral, Zillow, Realtor.com, Website, Social Media, Open House, Cold Call, and Direct Mail. Don't see yours? Type a new source and pick Add new source to save it for next time.

  3. Set the Type

Click Type and choose Buyer, Seller, or Both. This drives which buyer- and seller-specific details show up on the contact, like price range or estimated home value.

  4. Set the Timeframe

Click Timeframe and pick how soon they plan to act: Immediately, 0–3 months, 3–6 months, 6–12 months, or 1+ year.

Set the source the moment a lead comes in. It's the field you'll lean on most when you measure which channels — Zillow, referrals, your own website — actually turn into closings.

Why these fields matter

These three fields are more than labels. They feed the rest of SAMI OS:

  • Filtering and smart lists. On Contacts you can filter by source, type, and timeframe to build focused lists — for example, every seller looking to move in 0–3 months. Save those filters as a smart list to keep the view one click away.
  • Lead routing. Routing rules read these fields to send each lead to the right agent automatically. A rule might send all Zillow buyers to one teammate and referral sellers to another. After a lead is assigned, open its Routing Log on the contact to see exactly which rule matched and why.
  • Reporting. Accurate sources let you see which channels drive real business in Analytics, so you can double down on what works.

Choose Both as the Type for clients who are selling their current home and buying their next one. SAMI OS then surfaces both the buyer and seller sections so you can track each side of the deal.

Once these fields are set, your Workflows and reports stay accurate without any extra effort — every new lead lands in the right list and reaches the right agent.
