Choose the outbound workflow for new leads

Pick the workflow a sales-agent SAMI Bot enrolls new leads in, where all calls, texts, and waits live.

A sales-agent SAMI Bot doesn't store its own cadence — it points at one workflow that new leads enter for outreach. This article shows you how to choose that workflow and what makes one eligible.

How outbound cadencing works

Every outbound cadence — calls, texts, emails, and the waits between them — lives in the Workflows builder. Your bot just references the one workflow it should enroll new leads in, so you build the sequence once and reuse it.

This only applies to Outbound sales agent bots. Inbound-only bots wait for calls and have no workflow to assign. If you're not sure which type you have, check the article on choosing a bot type below.

A workflow is eligible only if it has at least one call, SMS, or email step. Empty workflows, or ones with only waits or tags, won't appear in the picker.

You don't need an "end of cadence" step. Terminal outcomes — like opt out, not interested, or unqualified — cancel the lead's enrollment automatically. Set those up in the bot's Outcomes step.

Pick the workflow

  1. Open your bot

Go to SAMI Bots and open the outbound sales-agent bot you want to configure.

  2. Go to the Outbound workflow section

In the bot editor, open the Outbound workflow section. It asks which workflow new leads should enter.

  3. Select an eligible workflow

Use the Outbound workflow dropdown to choose a workflow. Only workflows with at least one call, SMS, or email step are listed.

  4. Save the bot

Save your changes. From now on, new leads assigned to this bot enter the selected workflow for outreach.

If no workflows are eligible yet, the section shows a Create a workflow prompt instead of the dropdown. Build one in Workflows with at least one call, SMS, or email step, then come back and select it.

Build a workflow with SAMI

Don't have a cadence ready? On an outbound sales-agent bot, use Build workflow with AI and SAMI drafts a starter outbound workflow for you. It uses the bot's assigned phone number as the SMS sender, so texts go out from the right line.

The bot needs an assigned phone number first — otherwise the Build workflow with AI button stays disabled. Assign one from the SAMI Bots editor before you build.

After SAMI drafts the workflow, review and edit it in Workflows like any other cadence, then confirm it's selected as the bot's outbound workflow.
