Configure SMS messaging outcomes
Control what happens when a lead replies to your SAMI Bot's texts by mapping each outcome to tags, tasks, and owner alerts.
When a lead replies to your SAMI Bot's texts, SAMI reads the response and lands the conversation on a final outcome. The messaging outcomes editor lets you decide what else should happen for each one.
How SMS outcomes work
Every inbound text your bot receives gets classified. When the conversation reaches a terminal point, SAMI maps it to one of five configurable outcomes:
- Not interested — the lead opted out or showed strong disinterest.
- Unqualified — the lead falls outside your team's criteria.
- Bad phone number — the person says the number does not belong to the lead.
- Needs follow up — the conversation needs a real person to step in.
- Contact later — the lead asked to be reached at a future time.
SAMI already handles the system-level work for you. Depending on the outcome, it stops or pauses outreach, marks opt-outs as do-not-contact, stores the requested follow-up time, applies the matching outcome tag, and writes a system note with the context. You only configure what you want to add on top.
These outcomes share the same tag system as your call outcomes, so a lead who replies "stop" by text and one who opts out on a call both land on the same outcome tag. See understanding the 8 outcome tags for the full map.
Customize an outcome
Open your bot in SAMI Bots, then go to the Messaging section of the editor. You'll see one card per outcome.
Open the Messaging outcomes editor
In the bot editor, select the Messaging section. Use Expand all to open every outcome card at once, or click a single card to expand it.
Pick an outcome to customize
Each card lists what SAMI already does automatically. Choose the outcome you want to add behavior to, such as Needs follow up or Contact later.
Add a tag or task
Add an action to the outcome. You can add a tag to the contact for filtering and reporting, or create a task so someone on your team follows up. These run on top of the automatic actions.
Notify the owner
Turn on owner notification if you want the assigned agent alerted when a lead hits this outcome. Needs follow up notifies the owner by default, since those replies need a person.
Save the bot
Save your changes. New replies are classified and handled with your updated settings right away.
Add a tag on Contact later and Needs follow up so you can build a saved view of leads waiting on a human, then work that list each morning.
Where outcomes show up
Once a reply is classified, the outcome tag and system note appear on the contact in Contacts, and any task you configured lands in Tasks. If the outcome ends outreach, the bot's outbound workflow stops or pauses for that lead automatically.
