Marking deals Won, Lost, or Abandoned

Set a deal's outcome to Open, Won, Lost, or Abandoned and see how status differs from its pipeline stage.

Every deal in your Pipeline has two separate things going on: a stage and a status. Knowing the difference keeps your board accurate and your numbers honest.

Stage vs. status

A deal's stage is which column it sits in on the board — the step it's reached in your process, like New Lead, Under Contract, or Closing. You change the stage by dragging the card from one column to the next.

A deal's status is the outcome. It answers "is this deal still alive?" and has four values:

  • Open — active and in play (the default).
  • Won — closed successfully.
  • Lost — fell through and won't come back.
  • Abandoned — archived; no longer worth tracking.

A deal can be Won while still parked in your "Closing" stage, or Lost while sitting in "Negotiation." Stage tracks where it is; status tracks how it ended.

Won, Lost, and Abandoned deals are excluded from your active pipeline value. Only Open deals count toward the total at the top of the Pipeline, so closing or archiving a deal keeps your forecast realistic.

Change a deal's status

You can set status from three places — pick whichever is in front of you.

  1. From a card on the board

On the Pipeline, each card has a small status pill (it reads Open by default). Click it and choose Open, Won, Lost, or Abandoned. The card updates right away.

  2. From the deal detail page

Open any deal to see its detail page. In the Financials card, find the Status field, click it, and pick the new outcome. Your change saves on the spot.

  3. Confirm the move

After you set Won, Lost, or Abandoned, the deal drops out of your active value total and shifts into the matching status filter. The board itself keeps the card in its current stage column.

Marking a deal Won is the right move once it closes — don't delete it. Won deals stay in your Pipeline history and feed your reporting in Analytics.

How status drives your counts and filters

Status powers the Open, Won, and Lost counts shown above your board, plus the status filter that lets you narrow the view.

  • Use the filter row to switch between All, Open, Won, Lost, and Abandoned. Each button shows only deals with that status.
  • Set a deal to Abandoned to clear it out of your working view without losing the record. You can always reopen it later by setting status back to Open.
  • Want to focus only on live deals? Filter to Open to hide everything that's already resolved.
