Starting and stopping SAMI outreach for a lead

Ask SAMI to start, pause, or stop AI outreach for a contact, and check which workflow they're enrolled in.

When a lead is ready for AI follow-up, you can ask SAMI to begin outreach right from chat. SAMI enrolls the contact, then works the cadence of calls and texts for you — and you stay in control of pausing or stopping it anytime.

Start SAMI for a lead

To kick off outreach, just tell SAMI which contact to work. On a contact's page you can say "start SAMI for this lead"; anywhere else, name the person ("start SAMI for Maria Lopez").

SAMI doesn't pick a workflow at random. It uses the SAMI Bot assigned to that contact and runs that bot's linked outbound workflow. So the contact needs an assigned bot first — set that up in SAMI Bots, where each bot's outbound workflow is attached.

  1. Open SAMI on the lead

From the contact in Contacts, click AI Chat in the header, or use the full AI Chat page.

  2. Ask SAMI to start outreach

Say "start SAMI for this lead." SAMI confirms the contact and the bot's outbound workflow, then begins enrolling them.

  3. Confirm it's running

SAMI reports the workflow name once the contact is enrolled. During a busy burst of starts, enrollment may be queued and begin shortly through the scheduler instead of instantly.

SAMI won't start if the contact has no assigned SAMI Bot, is already in an active SAMI workflow, or is marked Do Not Contact. Assign a bot in SAMI Bots first, then try again.

Pause versus stop

You can wind outreach down two ways, and the difference matters:

  • Pause — temporarily holds the workflow. It stays on the contact and can be resumed later. Use this when a lead asks for a little space or you're waiting on something.
  • Stop — cancels the enrollment entirely. There's nothing to resume; you'd have to start SAMI again from scratch. Use this when a lead is dead, has opted out, or has been handed off.

Just tell SAMI what you want: "pause SAMI for this contact" or "stop SAMI outreach for Maria." SAMI acts on the one active workflow tied to that contact.

Reach for pause when you might re-engage the lead soon — it keeps their place. Reserve stop for outreach you're sure is finished.

Check a contact's enrollment status

Want to know where a lead stands? Ask "what's SAMI's status for this contact?" SAMI returns the contact's enrollment details: which workflow they're in, the current step, and what's coming next. It's the fastest way to confirm outreach is live before you pause or stop it.

For a deeper view of the whole cadence and timing, open the bot's workflow in Workflows, or review SAMI's calls and texts on the contact in Contacts.
